Upon the re-organisation of the government structure, the duties of the Environment and Ecology Bureau (EEB) and the Environmental Protection Department have been redistributed. The Environmental Protection Department is responsible for implementing various environmental policies, including enforcement of environmental legislation, management of the operation of major waste treatment and disposal facilities, planning for new facilities to collect, treat and disposal of waste, implementation of waste reduction and recycling programmes, management of the environmental impact assessment process of major projects, as well as organisation of various community and educational activities aimed at increasing environmental awareness, etc.

OUR MISSION

Is to contribute towards realising this vision by applying

our professional knowledge and judgment and drawing on international experience

-to assist in formulating policies and plans on environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development;

-to provide first-class physical infrastructure for the treatment and disposal of waste and wastewater;

-to raise community awareness of and promote public support for issues related to environmental protection and sustainable development;

-to promote collaborative efforts through regional and international co-operation;

-to implement environmental protection related legislation and plans; and

-to administer robust environmental impact assessment in the planning of new developments and major projects.
